Jeff Roley, the oldest "oldman" in the band, the shortest at 5'11", sometimes the wisest, (well every now and again), has become a prolific writer since rejoining with Martin and Ted.
In the past three years he has written probably over 50 songs of worship and praise, because he believes God has restored to his heart the purpose of the "song".
OldManWorshipBand means three things to Jeff. First, the opportunity to call men (and women) to a dynamic worship of the one true Living God, but primarily men. There is an abdication of the priestly role of men within their homes and in their communities that OMWB wants to see reversed.
Second, Jeff and Trudy will be married for 36 years this December 16. Along with Ted and Claudia, married for 35 years, and Martin and Ellen, married for 35 years, to promote Godly marriage that lasts a lifetime is a ministry priority. And for those who come out of brokenness, to promote reconciliation and/or restoration to wholeness in Christ as a single person. Without Trudy, Claudia and Ellen this ministry would not exist.
Thirdly, Jeff and OMWB recognize that this sojourn is all about relationships, and in particular, relationships across generations. Read the last two chapters of Joshua and the first three chapters of Judges to see the devastating affect of the shortsightedness of leadership related to influencing the next generation for the Kingdom of God. Jeff believes that the abomination of abortion of the unborn human child is a direct result of this kind of shortsighted leadership that is rooted in selfish sin with tragic consequences for all involved, including the nation that promotes such sin.
That is the theme of the new CD, "Future Generations" and why you will see pictures of grandkids on the inside cover. Jeff wants to make a difference for the Kingdom not just on this generation, but for up to five generations to come, should the Lord Jesus tarry in His return to earth.
Jeff, Martin and Ted have known each other since their Spring Arbor University days in the early 70's, and as bandmates with two Christian bands, Aslan and Stillwaters. But as often happens their paths diverged and did not come back together until a providential encounter between Martin and Jeff at a worship conference in Lake Odessa in 2006.
Jeff was born in Waynesville, Missouri and lived in Alexandria, Virginia as a teen before moving with his folks to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where as an 18 year old senior in high school, he was transformed by the Life Changer, Jesus Christ.
He is married to Trudy Sackett, who hails from Hawaii, has three incredible adult children who are married to the most awesome mates, and has four grandchildren with a dozen more on the way. Being a grandfather is the best role in the world.
Jeff and Trudy, currently live in Big Rapids, Michigan not far from the Muskegon River. Jeff is also the older brother of the well-known author and pastor, Scott Roley, and as often as possible, will "milk" that for all that it is worth.
Jeff is a licensed social worker and is Director of Child Welfare for Bethany Christian Services in Grand Rapids. The staff he works with are the best on the planet when it comes to working with abused and neglected kids. Check out the Bethany Christian Services website in our Links section.
